This Servo42 from Makerbase allows you to create your own Smart Steppers which uses a high-speed 32-bit processor combined with a 14bit (16384 pulse per revolution) encoder and motor driver to provide a closed loop PID control of the stepper motor preventing any loss of steps.
The closed-loop motor uses position feedback and speed feedback to determine the phase shift that is appropriate fpr the rotor position. When the closed-loop motor looses motion, it will feed back to the control module, and quickly adjust the corresponding phase and speed of the motor to quickly compensate, thus preventing the motor from losing steps.
