What is PayFast

PayFast is a leading online payment processing solution for individuals, NPOs and businesses of all sizes in South Africa. PayFast are dedicated to enabling the easy, secure and instant transfer of money to online merchants to help them grow, develop and succeed in the digital economy.

PayFast process all credit card transactions. All credit card transactions are 128 bit Secure Socket Layers (SSL) encrypted. The company registration documents and the site’s registered domain name are checked and verified, ensuring the cardholder and merchant that nobody can impersonate PayFast to obtain confidential information.

PayFast have an excellent monitoring system to prevent fraudulent transactions from taking place and have an extremely low fraud rate that passed through our system. They also make 3D Security (Verified by Visa and Master Card Secure Code). The additional verification requires the buyer to enter a one-time password (sent to their phone or email account) to complete the payment.



Security


They use Extended Validation SSL with 256-bit encryption. Only two of the four major South African banks to use this, the highest, level of encryption currently available.
3D Secure is in place for all credit card transactions.
All sensitive info is encrypted within their own database.
PayFast run penetration testing on their system on a weekly basis to look for vulnerabilities. They are only required to do it once every 3 months, but run it every week.
Their entire site, blog and help site are served off secure servers, making it harder to perpetrate phishing attacks.
They also have an excellent monitoring system that does, among other things: GEO IP tracking, velocity testing, BIN/IIN validation and checks against online databases.
The Merchant does not have access to credit details.
