Adafruit LTC4316 I2C Address Translator - Qwiic

Adafruit offers the LTC4316 I2C Address Translator, a solution to address the common issue of conflicting addresses in I2C devices. This module facilitates seamless integration of multiple devices by providing on-the-fly address translation.

Designed with ease of use in mind, the LTC4316 features an 'input I2C' half and an 'output I2C' half. Devices connected to the output half have their addresses automatically translated from the input half. The translation process involves flipping certain address bits, configurable using DIP switches on the board.

For instance, consider an AHT20 sensor fixed at address 0x38. By adjusting the DIP switches, the LTC4316 can translate this address to new values such as 0x78 or 0x58, ensuring compatibility with the I2C controller's perspective.

To expand translation options beyond the provided DIP switches, users can solder an XOR_LOW resistor according to the datasheet. However, it's crucial to note that changes to the translation address require resetting the LTC4316.

While the LTC4316 offers versatile address translation capabilities, users should be aware of its limitations. Notably, it does not support clock-stretching and firmware compatibility must be ensured before making address changes.
