ESP32-S3 UWB Position System with OLED

The ESP32-S3 UWB Positioning System combines an ESP32-S3 microcontroller with WiFi 2.4 GHz, Bluetooth 5.0 (BLE), and a DW3000 ultra-wideband (UWB) module for high-precision wireless positioning. It features a 1.3" OLED display, supports multi-beacon positioning with up to 8 anchors and 64 beacons, and enables accurate distance measurement using time-of-flight (ToF) calculations.

Designed for indoor navigation, asset tracking, and robotics, this board offers dual USB-C interfaces for programming and debugging, UART, I2C, and SPI communication, and LiPo battery support for standalone operation. It can be programmed via Arduino IDE and configured with AT commands, making it a versatile choice for IoT and wireless telemetry applications.

What is UWB?

Ultra-wideband (UWB) is a short-range wireless communication protocol that operates through radio waves, enabling secure, reliable ranging and precision sensing. It creates a new dimension of spatial context for wireless devices.

In field applications, one of the main challenges of UWB is signal interference and mutual conflicts when multiple anchors and tags are present.

Makerfabs' latest MaUWB module addresses this issue by integrating an STM32 controller running optimized firmware. This firmware has been carefully designed, adjusted, and proven reliable in real-world applications to efficiently manage DW3000 multiplexing. As a result, the ESP32 controller can easily obtain UWB ranging results using simple AT commands.
