SparkFun Sno Shoe - Arduino Compatible HDMI

The Alorium Technology Snō Development Board is highly praised by SparkFuns' team. Alorium has successfully integrated an ATmega328-compatible core into the FPGA, enabling programming from the Arduino IDE and utilization of Verilog Xcelerator Block (XB) features through regular Arduino code. SparkFun libraries can be seamlessly incorporated, mimicking code execution on a RedBoard.

One of SparkFuns' engineers was so enamored with the Snō that they even took it on vacation and adapted Sameer Puri's HDL Util Verilog for VGA HDMI functionality on the Snō as an Xcelerator Block. The XB allows for the display of VGA text and graphics on any 640x480 pixel-supporting monitor.

To connect the Snō to your monitor, an HDMI breakout board or cable can be used. However, for a more comprehensive solution, we recommend equipping your Snō with a Snō Shoe. The Snō Shoe offers the following convenient features:

  • Full-size HDMI socket connected to four pairs of (differential) FPGA pins.
  • Qwiic I2C connector for easy attachment of SparkFun Qwiic boards.
  • USB-C socket for power, configuration, and Serial communication.
  • CH340E USB interface eliminates the need for a separate FTDI breakout for Snō configuration.

Break Away Header Pins can be used to connect the Snō to the Shoe (soldering required). If you prefer a removable Snō, break away pins can be used on the Snō and female headers on the Shoe. The Snō Shoe allows mounting the Snō on top or underneath, offering accessibility to a reset button and I2C split pads in both configurations. Long Break Away Headers enable connection of breakout pins to a standard breadboard.
