SparkFun Soil Moisture Sensor - Qwiic Ready

The SparkFun Qwiic Soil Moisture Sensor is a refined solution for monitoring moisture levels in soil and similar substrates. This updated version replaces the earlier SEN-17731 and introduces a Qwiic connector for seamless I2C integration—no soldering or jumper wires required.

Using two gold-plated probe pads that act as a variable resistor, the sensor outputs an analog signal that increases with soil moisture. The gold (ENIG) surface finish improves durability in moist environments, addressing a common issue with traditional soil sensors. It operates between 3.3V and 5V and can be powered directly via a Qwiic-enabled system or using standard microcontroller pins.

To prolong the sensor's life, it's recommended to power it only when taking a reading—either through a digital I/O pin or a transistor-controlled switch.
