Pololu High-Power Stepper Motor Driver – 8A per Phase
The Pololu High-Power Stepper Motor Driver (36v8) is designed for controlling large bipolar stepper motors in demanding motion-control and robotics applications. Built around the Texas Instruments DRV8711 and paired with external MOSFET H-bridges, this driver supports operating voltages from 8V to 50V while delivering up to 8A continuous current per phase without additional cooling. With sufficient cooling, it can handle peak currents of up to 11A per phase, making it suitable for high-performance stepper motor systems.
The driver offers extensive configuration through an SPI interface, allowing users to fine-tune motor behaviour including current limits, decay modes, blanking times, and motion profiles for smooth and precise control. It supports microstepping resolutions from full-step down to 1/256-step for high precision positioning. Optional STEP/DIR inputs allow for traditional stepper control, while advanced features such as stall detection, back-EMF monitoring, and alternative brushed DC motor control modes provide exceptional flexibility for advanced robotics, CNC, and automation projects.
