DF Robot 8×8 Matrix ToF 3D Distance Sensor
The DF Robot 8×8 Matrix ToF 3D Distance Sensor is a compact LiDAR-based depth-sensing module designed to bridge the gap between single-point distance sensors and full depth cameras. Powered by an onboard RP2040 microcontroller, it delivers real-time 3D depth data across 64 individual ranging points arranged in an 8×8 matrix, covering a wide 60° field of view with detection distances of up to 4 meters. This allows projects to understand spatial context such as obstacles, edges, and movement without the complexity and processing overhead of traditional vision systems.

With plug-and-play Gravity I2C support, as well as UART and USB connectivity, the sensor is ready for rapid integration with Arduino, ESP32, and micro:bit platforms. Beyond basic ranging, the onboard RP2040 enables custom firmware and TinyML applications, allowing developers to implement gesture recognition, motion detection, or intelligent navigation directly on the sensor. Its low power consumption, expandable I2C addressing, and open-source ecosystem make it ideal for robotics, interactive installations, and smart automation projects.
